Dear ASM Members:
The purpose of this email is to bring you up to date on actions the ASM has taken to respond to the H1N1 influenza A outbreak.
ASM has posted a page on the HINI influenza A outbreak which includes links to CDC (http://mail.asmusa.org/t/599356/45239132/3010/0/) and other federal agencies, advisories, reports and guidance for laboratories at http://mail.asmusa.org/t/599356/45239132/3011/0/.
ASM posted a notice reminding everyone of the importance of hand-washing as an important means to control infection http://mail.asmusa.org/t/599356/45239132/3008/0/. The CDC has posted steps you can take to stay healthy at http://mail.asmusa.org/t/599356/45239132/3012/0/.
The Meetings Board is constantly assessing the impact the outbreak may have on the May 17 - 21 General Meeting of the Society in Philadelphia. Some registrants have indicated they may have to cancel if travel restrictions are issued or if professional responsibilities require them to remain at their workplaces. At this point we have determined there is not sufficient reason to cancel the Meeting. Any change in this decision will be communicated immediately to registrants and exhibitors, and will be posted prominently on the Societys webpage (http://mail.asmusa.org/t/599356/45239132/97/0/). Until further notice, all registration cancellation policies as previously stated will remain in effect.
We will also notify you of more specific information and other resources as they become available.
Sincerely,
Alison O’Brien, Ph.D.
ASM President
