  National Influenza Surveillance Program
  • Results of the Program
  • The first project period have been archived, expected results of the project have been reached. Though this surveillance, useful and helpful scientific information about influenza diseases built solid scientific basis of Influenza supporting better understanding the epidemiological and virological characteristics in Vietnam.

  • Components of the National Project on Influenza Surveillance
  • NIHE and other HE/Pasteur institutes will be responsible for advising the Ministry of Health, Vietnam on influenza control and prevention and outbreak management at the regional and National level. Quarterly and annual reports of the project will be submitted to Ministry of Health by NIHE. Every week, NIHE will report available surveillance data from all sentinel sites to Global Influenza Surveillance Network through FluNet.

  • Organizational Structure
  • The national influenza surveillance network will consist of 4 HE/Pasteur institutes and 6 major hospitals located within 4 cities in which the HE/Pasteur institutes are located. In addition, 1 district health center in Thai Binh province is also included to pilot surveillance activities at a lower level health facility.

  • Objective
  • To obtain the necessary epidemiological and virological information to guide influenza prevention and control policies and activities. Gradually establish the nationwide influenza surveillance network in Vietnam.

  • General Information
  • The cooperative agreements “Developing of Influenza Surveillance Network in Vietnam” between National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE) and the U.S. Centers for diseases Control and Prevention (CDC). The program has been sponsored by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
